Hundreds of Head Start Staff to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Head Start on Capitol Hill October 1st
On the fourth day of the National Head Start Association’s 2014 Fall Leadership Institute, attendees will bus to Capitol Hill for the “GoSmart/50th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration,” which will celebrate 50 years of Head Start success.
The theme of this year’s Fall Leadership Institute is “50 Years of Innovation.” Held September 28-October 2 in Washington, D.C., this 5-day event will focus on re-discovering all the ways that Head Start leadership has innovated over the past 50 years to meet challenges and remain one of the most successful anti-poverty programs of all time.
The Leadership Institute will culminate at the 50th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration on Wednesday, October 1st, where hundreds of Head Start directors, staff, teachers, and other childcare professionals committed to the healthy development of young children will rally on the grounds of Capitol Hill, and meet with legislators throughout the afternoon.
Since 1965, 31 million children have benefited from Head Start’s comprehensive services. The rally on Capitol Hill is just the beginning in celebrating this accomplishment. Throughout the year, NHSA will encourage participation of local agencies throughout the country in a variety of special events.
