The Gravely Group Helps Head Start Agencies Transition After Winning Recompetition
The Gravely Group has been very busy during the month of June. As Head Start programs begin to transition with new grant awards, the question came up about Policy Councils. The Knowledge Management consultants assisted a Head Start program that was going through this particular dilemma.
If an existing head start program has now won its re-competition decision, however it will receive a new funding amount and a new federal grant number, are they considered a new Grantee? Well, according to the federal government, yes. Therefore the Policy Council needed to launch again with only parents of children who would be eligible in the new school year. The Gravely Group was requested to support this transition.
With the assistance of Knowledge Management the Head Start program constructed:
- New methods of parents participation
- Updated by-laws for transitional Policy Council
- Guidance on federal regulations
- and performance standards around new grantee and Policy Council protocols
- Program governance transitional training for the Policy Council
During the last Policy Council meeting of the school year, all information was presented to the Policy Council. This was an eye opening experience for the Gravely Group. We thank the staff and Policy Council members of the Head Start Program for being so amenable to our recommendations.
