This interactive workshop prepares Head Start board and parent leaders to confidently carry out their governance roles and lead effective Board, Policy Council, or Parent Committee meetings. Grounded in the Head Start Act and Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), the training covers core governance principles, strategies for collaboration with program leadership, and key practices from Robert’s Rules of Order. Participants will gain practical tools—including agenda templates, minute-taking guidance, and motion protocols—to support transparent, efficient, and compliant meetings. A companion resource, the Boards & Policy Council Handbook for Effective Head Start Meetings, is also available.
Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the governance roles and responsibilities of Boards, Policy Councils, and Parent Committees under the Head Start Act and HSPPS.
- Apply Robert’s Rules of Order to conduct transparent, efficient, and compliant meetings.
- Use practical tools—such as agendas, minutes, and motion protocols—to strengthen collaboration and meeting effectiveness.
