Active Supervision: Creating + Enhancing a Culture of Safety

This training is designed to build a culture of shared responsibility for child safety across every role within an Early Learning Program. Grounded in the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), legal requirements, and ethical best practices, the session emphasizes that protecting children is a collective responsibility. Participants will explore the “why” behind child safety—its importance, regulatory expectations, and the ethical commitment to safeguarding children’s well-being. The training introduces a common program-wide language for child safety, including active supervision and safe touch parameters, to promote consistency and clarity in daily practice. Through scenario-based activities and team collaboration, participants will learn to recognize potential safety risks, apply active supervision strategies in real-world settings, and communicate concerns with confidence and professionalism. Whether serving as classroom staff, bus monitors, or kitchen personnel, every participant will leave with a stronger sense of ownership in protecting children. By the end of the session, staff will be better equipped to prevent and respond to safety concerns and to contribute to a culture where child safety is proactively and consistently upheld by all.
