Over fifty-five years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson created Head Start, a program to help meet the emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs of preschool-aged children from low-income families. Since then the program has made significant strides and regulations has continued to evolve to adapt to our current climate. This training will provide an in-depth look into the history of Head Start from 1964 to present day.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Why and how Head Start was created
  • Identify key contributors to the Head Start Act
  • Review the significant changes made to the Act to improve school readiness
  • Review funding structures over the last five decades
  • Review services provided and those impacted by the Act
