An agency must establish a parent committee comprised exclusively of parents of currently enrolled children as early in the program year as possible. This committee must be established at the center level for center-based programs and at the local program level for other program options. Parent engagement is an essential aspect of a high-quality program. One element of quality parent engagement is ensuring that parents including fathers feel welcome when coming into the program. They serve a crucial role in the lives of young children. How your program presents itself to parents will determine whether the parents stand on the sidelines or take an active role in enhancing the educational experiences of young children.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Learn how to establish parent committees
  • Learn the requirements and responsibilities of parent committees.
