Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS)

The CLASS Teacher-Child Observation Instrument is a vital part of the Head Start’s program monitoring and designation renewal process. We all know the National Average for CLASS, but do you know how to stay above it? With proper planning, effective conversations and an understanding of your curriculum this is a good start. This training will help staff understand how to appropriately prepare for this assessment, as well as strengthen overall operations in the classroom that will benefit teachers and children alike.

What is CLASS?

The Office of Head Start gives this definition:
“An observation instrument that assesses the quality of teacher-child interactions in center-based preschool classrooms. CLASS® includes three domains or categories of teacher-child interactions that support children’s learning and development: Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support. Within each domain are dimensions that capture more specific details about teachers’ interactions with children.”
